Home of the Brave 2006 Reviews

At a field hospital, a mortar attack injures multiple personnel and destroys many vehicles. The medical staff, including Marsh, is struggling to care for the wounded and dying as mortars rain down upon the compound. A young soldier carries his squad-mate into the trauma care ward. While Marsh addresses another soldier's wounds, the man draws a Beretta pistol and threatens to shoot him if he doesn't take care of his dying companion right away.

The description seems to indicate it's a movie about PTSD and while there are a couple of scenes that touch on that, it focuses more on a story of an innocent war veteran being shot during a police stop. Then there's the backdrop of a group of friends trying to build a community center. Ultimately, all of these different threads just don't come together very well.

Price falls in love with another coach at her school, whom she had rejected earlier while trying to transition back to her life. Yates has an emotional outburst at his father's shop and re-enlists. As the film ends, Marsh's son is happily playing in a soccer match at Price's school. Price introduces her new boyfriend to Marsh's wife and confirms dinner plans with them.

Home of the Brave is overly dramatic, cliché, terribly casted and nihilistic with moments of unintentional zaniness.

Yates is unemployed, having lost his job at a gun shop during his deployment. Home of the Brave follows four returning soldiers as they survive the ravages of was in Iraq and then try to come home to continue their lives. Originally, de Armas was indeed supposed to play a love interest for Patel's character in Yesterday. However, the shooter has surreptitiously moved, and Owens is shot from behind. Yates arrives, but the shooter is already gone, and it is too late for Owens, who dies in Yates' arms. Starts well with the stirring spectacle of young men and women, members of a National Guard unit stationed south of Baghdad, struggling to do their duty in an alien land of unfathomable danger.

The film was opened in only 3 theaters in 2006 and earned $51,708 at the box office domestically and $447,912 in the rest of the world. Originally released on December 15, 2006 for Oscar consideration, the production studio re-thought the release pattern and decided to pull it from theaters, planning on showing it to a wider audience later in the year. It was re-released on May 11, 2007 in 44 theaters, but this did not increase the film's financial earnings.

There are many low budget movies that are still entertaining or at least watchable. The acting is community-theater level and while the storyline is okay, the dialogue is really, really bad. The movie really needed some better sound and much better editing. Removing about 20 minutes of some of the hokey dialog and pointless scenes would have improved it. In addition, it's tough to really understand what the movie is trying to touch on.

I started cleaning my living room 3/4 of the way through. Sort of a mix between the VASTLY superior "Best Years of Our Lives" and an "ABC After School Special." It was OK... A film that may well be appreciated by the veterans of the Iraqi War and their families. Otherwise, SKIP IT. It just goes to show that if you have an Oscar, you can get an inexpensive film made... When one soldier is told to fire the AT-4 at a gunman on the roof, he is holding it backwards when he is firing it. The rocket comes out of the smaller end of the tube, not the larger.

A young cop makes efforts to connect with the people in the community as one of the good guys. Confident that he's prepared for anything, he jumps right in to protect and serve but it doesn't take long for the young officer to realize that maybe he's not as prepared as he thought. The stories of these two men unfold as we witness their paths cross and their lives changed because of it.

Yates undergoes basic training again and is shown patrolling the streets of an Iraqi city. Director Irwin Winkler's look at post-war life for several Iraq war veterans, is neither totally convincing nor entertaining. Was not bad, but having 50 cent in this film was a casting catastrophe.
